BLUEBIRD CREATIVE

+ If there were one element of aesthetic that you were known for, what would it be?!

I guess tablescapes. Most events we do there is a tablescape involved, so it's something I've done a lot, but I put a lot of thought into making them different. I have a thing for nice crockery and glassware!

I loved working together on our recent event. I felt we were on the same page and helped bounce of each other to create something special. I think honesty is key with what you are thinking and it helps produce awesome end results.

I particularly liked getting Clare's ideas on how to create interactive spaces and installations, as I know this is something she has done many a time and we haven't done so much. So it was create to learn of her in that area. You should always be learning!

+ What are you presently inspired by - are there particular things you are reading, listening to or looking at to fuel your work?

A lot of our events are inspired by our clients. Who they are, what they like etc. We try to make each event bespoke and personal to our client so there are touches of them in the styling and theming. I think this leaves them and their guests with more memorable and personally experiences.

I am also heavily inspired by interior design and flowers in general!

+ What three things never fail to bring you pleasure?

Flowers

Truffle (the savoury kind)

Red Wine

CATHY PYLE PHOTOGRAPHY

+ if there were one element of aesthetic that you were known for, what would it be?!

the one word that pops up again and again to describe my work is 'calm' (not that I am calm, you understand - but it's something I'm drawn to creating!)

-------------------------------------------------------

+ how was your experience working with Clare and Turmerichouse and what routes and learns did it take you down?

my experience was all about the quiet, focussed buzz of collaboration and creativity - the sense of flow and ease that occurs when things are done well

-------------------------------------------------------

+ what are you presently inspired by - are there particular things you are reading, listening to or looking at to fuel your work?

I'm hugely inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi at the moment; the idea of finding beauty in imperfection; an aesthetic that is understated, simple, raw, and pared down to the essence. I've just seen a small exhibition by Japanese photographer Miho Kajioka, whose work draws on the tradition of wabi-sabi - if you like the quiet, the ethereal and the delicate, you might love her work (on at the Photographers Gallery in London until 14 April). Also worth seeing - at the other end of the scale - is the Andreas Gursky at the Hayward Gallery, on until 22nd April. You'll find scenes of epic proportions and dizzying detail!

I'm also inspired by colour, always - and my current obsession is with all shades of green, which I'm using in my home, my wardrobe and my work ... maybe it's just waiting for the arrival of spring, but I can't get enough of mossy, leaf-green shades at the moment.

+ what three things never fail to bring you pleasure?

1. transforming a room with a lick of paint, a re-use of a piece used elsewhere in my house or garden, and a crafty upcycle of a junk shop find.

2. exercising - getting out of my head and into my body! It might be a brisk walk in the woods, or  - my new hobby and current obsession - a session practising my ice-skating moves (which brings in another thing that brings me pleasure, the feeling of learning something new)

3. travelling somewhere new ... exploring the sights, the light, the texture, the colour, the sounds, smells and tastes of somewhere I've never been before

I'm just starting out on a project inspired by the concept of wabi-sabi which will involve trying my hand at piecing together some broken pots with the art of kintsugi (mending with gold); I'm going to be photographing the process and the resulting pieces in a series of still life images. All being well, the images will be ready and printed by the summer! Follow me on Instagram @cathy.pyle and/ or sign up to my newsletter
